Volkswagen helps drivers to discover the UK’s best driving roads with Waze
Good driving roads are not exactly easy to find, if they were, they'd be too crowded to enjoy. But Volkswagen and Waze want to make it a little easier for enthusiasts in the UK.
Volkswagen announced recently that it has partnered with Waze, reputed to be one of the public's favourite navigation apps, aimed to help drivers find great driving roads across the UK. Named "GTI Superdrives," the mobile app is not restricted to GTi drivers, it allows anyone to discover a bit of excitement near their driving route.
The routes will be available during the summer months. When drivers come within 12 miles of a GTI Superdrives road, the app displays a GTI badge, users simply tap to be rerouted to that road. Users can also hunt them down later in the event they fancy making a road trip out of it. Right now, Waze has identified 10 such roads in the UK.
Here are some of the routes that are included:
- A82 Drumnadrochit to Tarbet
- A701 - A702 Moffat to Edinburgh
- A4069 Llangadog to Gwaun Cae Gurwen
- B3135 Cheddar to Ashwick
- B1257 Stokesley to Helmsley
- A675 Bolton to Riley Green
- A57 Sheffield to Hollingworth
- B645 Higham Ferrers to St Neots
- B3157 Weymouth to Bridport
- B158 Brookmans Park to Bayfordbury
Alison Jones, director of Volkswagen UK, said: “Our GTI badge quite simply stands for driving joy. Working with Waze, we wanted to offer more drivers the chance to get off the often congested ‘beaten track’ and instead experience the simple pleasure of driving once more.
“The aim, very clearly, is about enjoying time behind the wheel – not speeding or driving in a way that increases risk – and we believe that the intelligence of the Waze app helps drivers do just that.”
Waze is a free mobile app which is available for Android and iOS devices. It will give you navigation with the benefit of community input. That means accurate traffic conditions - based on the speeds of other Waze users - as well as community reports on things like roadworks and speed cameras.
Volkswagen currently has three GTI models on sale – the famous Golf GTI, the recently launched Polo GTI and Up! GTI, with prices for the baby Up!
